Are you looking to deepen your spiritual practice and connect with your inner self? A mala can be a powerful tool to support you on your journey.
The creation of a mala is a process of love, delicacy, and patience. We start by cleansing the energy of the crystals we’ll use, designing the mala, preparing the central string, and beginning to knot each bead. With love on our hands, gently. One bead and one knot at a time.
The string itself passes through the entire mala, completing a cycle when we reach the starting and ending point of the 108 beads. We then add the "Guru Bead," the 109th bead that represents our teacher and inner mastery, that led us to where we are today.
Thus, the mala is a cycle of beginning and ending. A beginning and an ending… A journey that also culminates in a unique and special connection between you and your beads.
Two principal characteristics we like to emphasise are that on the one hand, it contains the magic of being a mala and having 108 beads (sacred number from different traditions) and on the other hand, it is created with precious stones and crystals. Learn more about this topic.
Moreover, crystals are a healing tool used since ancient times by different native peoples in their rituals and healing processes. They are energy sustainers and transmitters.
We find it very special when you receive your mala, and a connection is created between you and your beads. It becomes your amulet, your partner on your spiritual journey. You may have chosen that precise crystal intuitively because something about it caught your attention, or you may have connected through intention and the energetic qualities it brings. Whatever the case may have been, now that is in your hands let’s create something special for this connection.
1. Prepare the space
You are invited to prepare the space with a cleansing herb such as White Sage, Palosanto, incense or resin. Choose the one you like best.
Pass the herb smoke around the mala to cleanse it and infuse it with your love and your intention. Create a connection between you and your mala. Make a few long and deep breaths, in and out, inhale… and exhale...
2. Set your intention
Take a few long, deep breaths and ask yourself this questions to get clarity on your intention. Consider…
How are you feeling at the moment?
Where is your focus right now?
What do you want to focus on?
What is your intention right now?
What do you want more of in your life?
How can you take care of yourself more?
3. Choose your Mantra
If you're interested in starting a japa meditation practice with your mala, keep reading. However, if you're new to meditation and not sure how to use your mala, you can watch our video or come back to this point when you're ready if you feel like.
First, choose a mantra that aligns with your intention. It can be a simple positive phrase like "I Am Healthy," "I Am Grateful," or "I Am a Being of Love." Alternatively, you can choose a traditional Sanskrit mantra like "YAM" (heart chakra mantra) or "Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha" (Ganesha's mantra)...
You can download our "The 3M's Guide: Mantra, Meditation, Manifestation" for more clarity. As you recite your mantra, hold each bead on your mala and feel the energy of each one. Focus on the vibration of your mantra and allow it to permeate your being.
4. Expand your vibration and frequency
Once you get clarity inside, focus on your intention by expanding that vibration and frequency in your body. Expand it through your physical body and your aura until you feel yourself surrendered by it.
5. Visualise the connection
Hold your mala with your hands now and do a small visualization: visualise a pink thread connecting your heart to your mala. Repeat your intention again embracing the feeling and frequency of your intention, which your mala will hold for you.
6. Express Gratitude
Take a moment to express gratitude for this connection, for creating this space for yourself, for connecting with yourself and your mala, for the connection you have created, for the journey you will take together, and for having an amulet on your path.
By following these simple steps or creating your own original and unique way of connecting to your beads, you can create a meaningful connection with your mala and deepen your spiritual practice. ]]>According to our perspective and different traditional perspectives, when a mala breaks, it may indicate that its cycle has been completed. The crystal and the mala may have served their purpose, and the breaking may be a way to transmute energy. Similarly to when a crystal piece breaks, they sustain energy and often breaking is how the energy is transmuted. The end of that crystal and its purposes arrives. Or a new beginning is waiting with another purpose.
If this happens to you, we recommend taking some time to reflect on the mala's significance in your life. What was its purpose, and how do you feel about that purpose now? How has the intention you set with this mala evolved, and how do you feel now compared to before? Additionally, where are you invited to focus your energy right now?
A broken mala is an invitation to put your energy and focus into another area of your life. Feel what your intention is at this moment and notice the differences...
What did this mala mean to me?
How has the intention I set with this mala evolved?
How do I feel now as opposed to before?
Where am I invited to focus my energy right now?
To conclude this cycle, it is recommended to cleanse the beads with Palo Santo or White Sage, express gratitude for the process, and look forward to what's to come next. If you enjoy rituals, burying your mala in a meaningful place, such as your garden… can be a beautiful way to let go.
We hope that it has been accompanying your journey, and that you have enjoyed it with all your heart and love. However, in the event that it has broken, as we have explained, let us embrace the situation with love and understanding of a higher and divine order.
Life always leads us to the teachings we are invited to integrate, which helps us to grow and evolve. We can learn valuable lessons from every experience, even if it seems difficult at first. By embracing the process, we can find peace and move forward with grace and positivity.
Sometimes we are asked if we offer to restring a mala, and we do not offer it because we firmly believe that, as we have explained before, when a mala breaks, it has a greater significance associated with the energetic field, both our energy and the process that this mala has accompanied us through.
What we recommend is to reflect on the questions we mentioned earlier, and open yourself to your current situation:
How do you feel?
What energy are you recommended to open up to at this moment
What is your intention?
From there, letting go of the mind and connecting with your emotions… which mala is the right one to accompany you? You can explore our mala beads collection and personalized mala guide to find a new mala that resonates with your current energy and intention. Trust your intuition and choose with your heart. Remember to honor your path, let go of what's gone, and look forward to what's coming next.
If you have ever had the experience of a mala breaking, we would love to hear your thoughts and what you learned from the experience!
At the same time, we have to say that a mala does not often break, and it is not something usual, so don't be afraid that it will break. It's just that in case it happens, we're here to help you make sense of it.
p.s.: if you're new to mala beads and would like to learn more about them, you can read our previous blog post on What Are Mala Beads. In that post, we go in-depth about the history, meaning, and usage of mala beads in different practices.
From our hearts to yours,
YAM team
]]>Have you allowed yourself to be guided and begin to trust so that everything falls into place?
There are processes in the awakening of life consciousness, which we do not understand, as they are out of our perception and understanding until we align ourselves with unconditional love, open our hearts and something tells us: it is that way.
This is what we call "the soul's calling."
When something appears or some event happens, it gives us the certainty that this is the way. It might be a dream, a change, the craziest and most daring idea, but if you are receiving it is because you must abide by it, it is part of the soul's purpose.
Many times we find ourselves ignoring these calls, until one day, we start to answer them.
You can practice this little exercise with us:
Stop for a moment... Feel with confidence that you are divinely guided.
What is your soul trying to tell you?
Sometimes it might not make sense, as previously mentioned, it goes beyond our understanding, beyond what we believe we are capable of. It is simply about being more and more connected with ourselves, trusting, opening our hearts, letting go of control and allowing ourselves to be guided.
Last week I shared one of my favourite mantras through our newsletter (if you are not signed up, you can do it here and receive our free “Mantra, Meditation, Manifestation guide”), to use it as a witness that you are on the right path, whatever process you are going through.
I don't know your case, but telling a little about mine, when I hear a whisper coming from my soul is when all the adventures that align my being and soul calling begin.
Some moments they might seem they are unattainable dreams, others might seem in which you have lost your way, but you go ahead and take the step to open the path further. At other times, you might fail to understand what is happening, but it is all part of the calling.
Personally, I can only say that I am grateful to receive these signals, soul-calls… Think about them. There are so many that we have received on this path of awakening.
Our purpose and mission at YAM is for you to be connected with yourself, in connection with your soul, with your own why, love, harmony and mission. Our way of sharing knowledge is through sacred tools such as malas, sacred jewelry and crystals to live in connection with oneself and evolve. As we mentioned before, let's answer that soul calling.

Traditionally used by Yogis, Hinduists, Buddhists... Rudraksha is a seed with tradition and powerful energy. It has a rough texture on the surface that has lines or grooves called “mukhas,” which are the facets of the seed. According to the number of mukhas it has, it is associated with a specific energy. Those with only one vertical line are one Mukhi and from there it starts to increase up to 21 facets.
Here at YAM, we use five-faced beads, 5 Mukhi, called Panchmukhi. From ancient times Rudraksha has been used for its healing properties on developing inner peace, calming anxiety... Used in both yoga practice and meditation, it helps to achieve balance and essential health.
For better care, we suggest avoiding contact with water. Being a seed, contact with water will age it and it may darken faster.
At the same time, contact with the skin (a bracelet that is in constant contact with the skin) can darken after a certain time with the natural oils that our skin has.
We recommend cleaning it with an unused toothbrush, along with neutral soap. You can then apply a little bit of natural oil (almond or a balancing oil with mild essences) and dry it gently with air.
We are passionate about using this precious seed and most of our malas, except for the Sandalwood collection (a beautiful and sacred wood in India with the most special scent of all and rooting properties - we will talk about in another post), have Rudraksha beads of 5 Mukhi.
If you are called by Rudraksha, shop our Japa Mala Rudraksha Collection, Gemstone & Rudraksha Japa Mala Collection and our Bracelet Collection.

We have an invitation to live in the present and to maintain our frequency as high as possible. To not enter into the fear mindset.
”Remember that you are a sobering being and anchor the highest frequency of light on you, asking for assistance from your guides who loves you unconditionally and are aligned with the highest good of all.
Release your mind of fear and fill it with trust.
Expand your love with small details towards yourself, your friends, family and community. “
The support you give to each other creates an infinite net of light that activates and as it starts expanding, sends more and more light, creating an invisible “wifi” network of light. Expanding light to dense thoughts and to lowest vibration realities.
This is a collective work and there is a huge supporting network, doing energetic work to sustain this frequency. Light workers, use your knowledge and tools to elevate your own frequency and to initiate those who need guidance to transmute dense patterns into light.
Our wish is that you are filled with love, unity and trust’s highest frequencies.

Due to their sacredness and high energetic frequency, Mala Beads are much more than beautiful ornaments and they are used as a reminder of the intentions you wish to manifest. Malas can be worn, have them in your sacred space or use them in your practice.
A Mala is made with 108 beads with a knot in between each bead (which creates space to slide your fingers if you want to use them for meditation practices). The bead outside of the string is the 109th bead, which is called Guru Bead. The Guru bead is used to honour your relationship between yourself and the greatest teacher of all, the Guru within, and to express gratitude and connection.
At the end of the Mala, there is a tassel or a decorative charm. At YAM we have two different designs, one of them is with different color silk or cotton tassel and the other one, our signature YAM sterling silver charm.
Wearing YAM Abundance Mala and Inner Power Mala
Malas are made meditatively by hand and their beads can be made of different materials. At YAM we love using Rudraksha, Sandalwood and Gemstones.
The unique characteristic of our Malas is the symbology we use on it. Our name, YAM, is the Bija-mantra or sacred sound of the Heart Chakra, which is unconditional love and compassion for one and others. We use YAM’s sanskrit letter in a handcrafted sterling silver charm to impart this quality to our pieces. Sacred symbols carry high frequencies and vibrations with them.
108 is a sacred number in Yoga, Hinduism, Buddhism and many traditions, open to different significances.
In Vedic Culture, 108 is a number of the wholeness of existence: 1 the individual, 0 the universe, 8 the infinite.
According to Yogi Tradition there are 108 sacred places in India and 108 sacred places in our body.
Astrologically speaking, distance between the earth and the moon is 108 times the moon’s diameter and happens the same for the sun, comparing with his diameter. As the same time, the diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the earth.
As we mentioned before, they can be use for your meditation practice, wearing them or use them in your altar or sacred space as a sacred element.
When you practice meditation with them regularly, we recommend not to wear them afterwards and to keep it in your YAM bag to keep its energy, its Shakti. If you are using it in your meditations, they absorb the vibrations of the practice and its great to have that mala exclusively for your practice.
If you choose to wear it, can be worn as necklaces around your neck and some people also like to loop them multiple times around your wrist as a bracelet. We love wearing them as a necklace and setting our prayer or intention to the Mala before it accompany us during our day.
We hope you create a beautiful connection with your Mala.
