Create a Ritual with your Mala Beads
Creating a Special Connection with your Mala Beads
Are you looking to deepen your spiritual practice and connect with your inner self? A mala can be a powerful tool to support you on your journey.
The creation of a mala is a process of love, delicacy, and patience. We start by cleansing the energy of the crystals we’ll use, designing the mala, preparing the central string, and beginning to knot each bead. With love on our hands, gently. One bead and one knot at a time.
The string itself passes through the entire mala, completing a cycle when we reach the starting and ending point of the 108 beads. We then add the "Guru Bead," the 109th bead that represents our teacher and inner mastery, that led us to where we are today.
Thus, the mala is a cycle of beginning and ending. A beginning and an ending… A journey that also culminates in a unique and special connection between you and your beads.
Two principal characteristics we like to emphasise are that on the one hand, it contains the magic of being a mala and having 108 beads (sacred number from different traditions) and on the other hand, it is created with precious stones and crystals. Learn more about this topic.
Moreover, crystals are a healing tool used since ancient times by different native peoples in their rituals and healing processes. They are energy sustainers and transmitters.
We find it very special when you receive your mala, and a connection is created between you and your beads. It becomes your amulet, your partner on your spiritual journey. You may have chosen that precise crystal intuitively because something about it caught your attention, or you may have connected through intention and the energetic qualities it brings. Whatever the case may have been, now that is in your hands let’s create something special for this connection.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Connecting with your Mala Beads
1. Prepare the space
You are invited to prepare the space with a cleansing herb such as White Sage, Palosanto, incense or resin. Choose the one you like best.
Pass the herb smoke around the mala to cleanse it and infuse it with your love and your intention. Create a connection between you and your mala. Make a few long and deep breaths, in and out, inhale… and exhale...
2. Set your intention
Take a few long, deep breaths and ask yourself this questions to get clarity on your intention. Consider…
How are you feeling at the moment?
Where is your focus right now?
What do you want to focus on?
What is your intention right now?
What do you want more of in your life?
How can you take care of yourself more?
3. Choose your Mantra
If you're interested in starting a japa meditation practice with your mala, keep reading. However, if you're new to meditation and not sure how to use your mala, you can watch our video or come back to this point when you're ready if you feel like.
First, choose a mantra that aligns with your intention. It can be a simple positive phrase like "I Am Healthy," "I Am Grateful," or "I Am a Being of Love." Alternatively, you can choose a traditional Sanskrit mantra like "YAM" (heart chakra mantra) or "Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha" (Ganesha's mantra)...
You can download our "The 3M's Guide: Mantra, Meditation, Manifestation" for more clarity. As you recite your mantra, hold each bead on your mala and feel the energy of each one. Focus on the vibration of your mantra and allow it to permeate your being.
4. Expand your vibration and frequency
Once you get clarity inside, focus on your intention by expanding that vibration and frequency in your body. Expand it through your physical body and your aura until you feel yourself surrendered by it.
5. Visualise the connection
Hold your mala with your hands now and do a small visualization: visualise a pink thread connecting your heart to your mala. Repeat your intention again embracing the feeling and frequency of your intention, which your mala will hold for you.
6. Express Gratitude
Take a moment to express gratitude for this connection, for creating this space for yourself, for connecting with yourself and your mala, for the connection you have created, for the journey you will take together, and for having an amulet on your path.
